Engineering and Contracting

Engineering and contracting refers to a service model generally used in large-scale projects such as construction, energy, industrial plants and infrastructure projects. In this model, a contractor or contracting firm provides both engineering services for a specific project and undertakes the contracting works for the construction or implementation of the project.

In such projects, engineering and contracting firms usually offer the following services:

Engineering Design

Engineering design of the project involves working in structural, mechanical, electrical or other engineering disciplines to meet the technical requirements of the project.

Project Management

Project management services are provided to ensure that the project is completed on time and within budget. This includes allocation of resources, progress monitoring, risk management and other project management activities.

Subcontractor Management

The selection, contracting and management of the subcontractors used in the project are also carried out by the engineering and contracting company.

Construction and Installation Works

The construction, assembly and installation works that need to be fulfilled in the project are carried out by the engineering and contracting company. This includes activities such as structural works, mechanical assembly, electrical installation.

Testing and Commissioning

Following the completion of the project, it includes the testing and commissioning of the systems. The engineering and contracting model aims to provide a turnkey solution across the entire project lifecycle (design, build, operate). This offers project owners (usually public organisations, private companies or individuals) the possibility to lighten the workload, save costs and time, and reduce risks.
